For a while, the Titans were in a real tumultuous time - having run afoul of the Brotherhood of Evil and with honorary Titans disappearing around the clock, the team seemed at an end when the founding members started being abducted. The Brotherhood of Evil had taken into their fold the many foes the Teen Titans had made in their occupation of Jump City, making any kind of resistance futile.
Eventually, the only ones left were Beast Boy and a ragtag group of honorary members. Instead of giving up, the group launched a daring plan of rescue and managed to reclaim their friends through their perseverance. The tables turned on the villains, as the Titans proceeded to use their own technology against them to flash freeze them for incarceration.
Life quickly began to return to normal with the Titans back home in Jump. In the midst of chasing after a mysterious white creature, Beast Boy received a tremendous shock - he spotted a girl in the crowd, clothed in a school uniform. A blonde girl. One who looked exactly like Terra, the former geomancer who had sacrificed herself to save the Titans and kill Slade. The other Titans were skeptic, but Beast Boy was convinced after visiting the site of Terra's "death": her body, previously frozen in place as a stone statue, was gone. After questioning the supposed Terra she adamantly protested that Beast Boy was wrong, that she wasn't who he thought she was. Encouraged by the others to leave it well alone, Beast Boy eventually dropped the issue and rejoined the team in their pursuit of the mystery creature.
The Titans never captured the creature, and never found out anything more about it before it simply disappeared.
Of course, in all this commotion, none of them really had any time to stop and think about Slade.
While the Titans were out gallivanting about in Tokyo, the Brotherhood and the other villains were scheduled to be shipped out to various detention facilities. Each and every single transport was systematically hit by Slade's robotic drones, taking the prisoners with them before retreating with their targets. The message was clear; Slade was back, and he was putting his new plan into motion.
The Titans are now preparing themselves for an attack on any front, although the clues they've been given are few and far in-between. There have been reported sightings of Slade all over the world, often within days of each other, although there's no way of knowing which of them (if any) are valid accounts.
There has also been an outbreak of a strange illness sweeping down from the north across the continental U.S., defying the best efforts of leading health-care specialists and biologists to either identify what it is or treat it. In the majority of cases, victims suffer extreme flu-like symptoms before lapsing into comas of varying lengths. Even some super-powered people have fallen prey to this illness, with new symptoms appearing for them relating to their powers. They often lose control of them, suffer diminished power for a time, or lose all of their power completely for as long as it takes them to slip into a coma and spring back out. A few have even lost their powers completely, with no sign that they will ever return. The victims largely recollect nothing, although the criminals often recount images of a tall, lanky man in leather poking and prodding them with different medical implements. Aside from that, they can only remember one thing, or rather, one word: "Pazuzu".
The last bit of intelligence the Titans have uncovered, for all the good it's done them so far, is that the person (or persons) behind the sickness is seeking an alliance with Slade.
With the looming promise of old enemies resurfacing, new ones making a name for themselves, a sickness that seems to be targeting super-powered individuals with an alarming tenacity, and more and more unknown supers migrating to Jump City, the Titans are certainly going to have a lot on their hands. Faced with all of this, will they crack under the pressure? For though they've faced more than most, they're still kids.
And kids need Room to Grow.
