THE GOOD STUFF;;
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Regardless of what he wears, Shibyou's physique is very striking. He's very tall (6'4") and lanky, evoking an image of a scarecrow hoisted up in a field somewhere. When in costume he's usually hunched over with his arms hanging to either side, like a marionette with it's strings cut - he's discovered that this is very creepy, and he likes to put fear into the hearts of those he stalks. Shibyou's black hair falls past the nape of his neck in the back, and his bangs are long enough to fall over his eyes. It's always tousled, looking like he just woke up and didn't bother to comb through it.
For the most part when he's not doing anything particularly evil or working on something, it's not surprising to find Shibyou in a baggy black t-shirt and a pair of jeans. He has a wide selection of solid-color shirts (all in dark colors) and a couple of button-up dress shirts, for when he likes to feel fancy. He likes wearing simple black boots, and when he's not eating or doing delicate work with his hands, he often wears a pair of leather gloves over them.
When he's "experimenting" or on the prowl, however, Shibyou ditches his usual outfit for one more practical: a black leather catsuit, with a built-in emergency ventilation system. Across his waist is slung something that looks suspiciously like an ammo belt; each "bullet" is really a capsule containing a single dose of whatever he finds fascinating enough to produce. The sleeves of the catsuit end at the wrist, and Shibyou wears a pair of fingerless gloves on either hand to leave his fingers free in battle. When in his lair, Shibyou often wears a pair of goggles with bottle-green lenses.
Shibyou even has a second costume; underneath his clothes he wears a pair of (normally) black shorts that are form-fitting and cut off just above the knee. These shorts are actually made out of a particular material that allows them to change color to adapt to nearly any camouflage situation. This second costume consists solely of the shorts and a bandoleer-type sash slung over Shibyou's shoulder, intended for covert excursions and slipping out from underneath the public's eye. Generally when he's in this costume, Shibyou will change his hair and skin tone to a solid black. His eyes are either made a solid white or black, depending on what he feels is appropriate for the moment.
When out in public, Shibyou tends to darken his skin-tone and lighten his hair with his biokinesis, just so he doesn't stick out too much.
PERSONALITY:
Do you remember that kid you used to see in school, the one who never really participated in anything that required human interaction? Maybe you thought he was cool and mysterious, maybe you thought he was creepy and weird. Whatever the decision, Shibyou is the extreme of that. He's very clinical, very quiet and observing, very analytical. Scenarios are always flashing through his head, so he sometimes appears to be daydreaming or not paying attention.
When he's not wholly wrapped up in his experiments, Shibyou is much more approachable; he might seem a bit colder than your average person, but aside from that, he acts pretty normal. He's very observant and a good listener, and he offers advice and is fairly friendly.
He's completely the opposite when he's in his other state of mind; he's still very observant, but he's much more cold and distant than he usually seems to be. He often doesn't speak in complete sentences, and he tends to treat people as objects rather than human beings even though he doesn't regard them as such.
Shibyou has few friends, but he's fiercely protective of the ones he does have - in his own special way, of course.
POWERS AND/OR ABILITIES:
- Biokinesis - All of Shibyou's apparent powers are derived from this one; simply put, he has a conscious control over the physical makeup of his human body. He can't shape-shift or drastically change any part of his body, possibly due to the fact that his body is too busy keeping up the perfect immune system; however, the limited effect of this power suits him just fine. With a thought, Shibyou can alter various aesthetic aspects of himself; he can change the rate of growth of bodily hair, the texture of his skin, and even the tone/color of his hair, skin, or eyes, as well as other such things that are made practically useless, such as his teeth and tongue. He can also reshape his fingernails into razor-sharp claws of a variable length. As a small note, he can also use this power to temporarily remove his own fingerprints.
- Perfect Immunization - Shibyou's immune system is a miraculous thing; if Shibyou happens to catch a disease or illness, within a 48 hour period, he'll be back to full health and will have complete immunity to whatever he was afflicted with. While this doesn't prevent, say, mutations like cancer or illnesses induced by radioactivity, he does have a heightened resistance to them.
- Agility - Shibyou's not going to be setting any records any time soon, but he's definitely comparable to an Olympic-level gymnast. He's not very buff or enduring, so he prefers to get in close and slip between his opponent's attacks.
- Virus Production - There are tiny ducts underneath his fingernails that, at a thought, will begin to secrete a viscous liquid. If this liquid makes any contact with any mucous membranes or open wounds, there's a good chance that the afflicted will begin to feel weak and hot. Before it abates, they might develop other symptoms, such as a headache or a high fever. Shibyou can also spew a toxic cloud from his mouth that has an incredibly short range; this is mainly used as a last-ditch effort in an attempt to escape.
The severity and duration of these two attacks differs from person to person. The longer Shibyou chooses to secrete the liquid from his fingernails, the more he risks becoming dehydrated from loss of fluids, so he prefers to 'tag' someone once with the liquid, then continue lashing out with his claws. - Pellets - For attacking at a distance, Shibyou has various casings on his belt shaped like bullets. When the container is broken, a gas seeps our and encompasses a small region, less than 4" by 4". They contain non-lethal deterrents; tear gas, sleeping gas, regurgitant gas, etcetera. While they don't affect him, they do irritate his throat, which is why he wears a gas mask. Just in case.
WEAKNESSES:
- Gets very absorbed in whatever 'test subject' he has selected at that time.
- Just as frail as your average human.
- Average strength.
- He's so driven by his analytical mind that he's incapable of feeling fear, only relying on statistics and percentages for success and failure.
GOALS: To finish his magnum opus, his lifelong research, and usher humanity into a new golden era.
HISTORY:
Shibyou was the token "weird kid" at his school; no one really picked on him, but no one really paid him any attention, either. He grew up away from the others, burying himself in books and documentaries. For as long as he could remember, he had always wanted to go into the medical field; to discover new virii, new pathogens, new cures and vaccines. He threw himself into textbooks and studies and documentaries, trying his best to soak up all the information like a sponge.
As absorbed as he was in his own studies, he didn't neglect his classes - every year in school, he kept straight A's across the board. In middle school this began to get to some of his other classmates, ones who had difficulty getting anything above D's, and they decided to antagonize him for it. It confused Shibyou, but he decided to take their punishment. He had no connection with anyone in the school, and it didn't seem logical to him to fight back just because they were airing out petty grievances on him.
Despite how he reasoned with himself, the truth was that he was angered by his classmate's actions. Tucked away deep inside and denied recognition by him, the hate began to fester, causing subtle changes in his body chemistry. A few months after his classmates had been torturing him at school, Shibyou noticed something was wrong with his cat; she was walking funny and dry heaving, but after a visit to the vet, he was assured that there was nothing wrong with her. He woke up the next morning, his cat dead on his bed - somehow, by having physical contact with his cat, he had infected it with some kind of lethal pathogen; one that, apparently, the vet hadn't been able to detect. Shibyou was deeply disturbed by this, and it wasn't until about a year later - after many mysterious animal deaths surrounding him - that he began to draw the connections. He began, out of morbid curiosity, to experiment on rats and record the results.
A couple of years later, when Shibyou was in his senior year of high school, his mother and father began to fight. Oh, they had always argued before, but that was tame compared to this; his father would yell and his mother would scream, and Shibyou would retreat to his room until it was over. Each successive fight got worse and worse, until one night when Shibyou's father came home drunk. The word 'divorce' was brought up, and apparently that was the wrong topic for discussion.
Shibyou was leaving his room to get a snack from the kitchen when he heard the fighting. Venturing carefully into the kitchen, he found his father beating his mother in the corner. Taking a step back, the floor beneath him creaked, and his father turned on him instead, calling him a freak. His father repeatedly beat on him, slamming his head into the floor - eventually things went dark.
He came to later in his bed, welts and bruises all over his body and a pounding in his head. Apparently after his father had finished with him, his mother had carried him back into his room and tended to him. He waited until it was nighttime and, after sneaking into his parent's bedroom, ran his hand across his father's face.
He didn't stick around to see if his father died or not. He gathered what few possessions he had and left home, moving from city to city in an attempt to find a place that he could set up a research laboratory. In his travels, he also briefly entertained the notion that his powers might have a supernatural cause - he debunked that idea, but he did develop a slight fascination with alchemy.
After leaving his old life behind he discarded his old name, picking out a new one for himself: "Shibyou" is Japanese for "poison"; "Ren" and "Aylen" were the last names of some of the doctors he read about. When he's experimenting, he refers to himself as Pazuzu. Pazuzu, in Assyrian and Babylonian mythology, was the king of the demons of the wind. Pazuzu, despite being an evil demon himself, was supposed to drive away other evil spirits, protecting people from plagues and misfortunes. He found the name fitting.
The research he's gathered along his travels through the States has largely been gleaned through...unprofessional means, never having a place to set up shop for more than a week or two. The first time he experimented on a meta-human, actually, was completely by chance; the aspiring hero had stumbled onto Shibyou in the middle of sedating a patient, and Shibyou was forced to restrain the young teen to prevent his secret from getting out. Carrying on his experiments with his new patient, Shibyou stumbled across something that simultaneously renewed his hope in his work, as well as giving him inspiration for potential future funding.
Currently, Shibyou has set up shop in an abandoned building on the outskirts of Jump City. With a multitude of heroes, villains, and unsuspecting criminals, he has a bountiful list of subjects to choose from.
