ILDON "MARIE" ANOZON
In the hearts of the blind, something you'll never find
Is a vision of light
In the voice of the dead, I'm screaming
I don't know who I am anymore
Not once in life have I been real, but I've never felt this close before
Is a vision of light
In the voice of the dead, I'm screaming
I don't know who I am anymore
Not once in life have I been real, but I've never felt this close before
"You have to hold yourself to higher standards.
We all do."
We all do."

THE GOOD STUFF;;
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Standing at 6 feet even and spreading out 210-some-odd pounds over a surprisingly muscular, heavily toned body, Ildon cuts an impressive figure to most. Her eyelids always seem to be at half-mast for some reason, and they tend to give the impression that she's bored with something or inattentive. Coming from the planet Ramore, where the majority of the species are nocturnal due to the planet's bizarre rotational cycle (for every hour of daytime, there is 23 hours of nighttime), Ildon's skin is an almost ivory pallor, and despite her extended stay on Earth, her complexion doesn't seem like it's going to darken in even the slightest bit. Her hair is a solid black and falls just slightly above her shoulders, and it generally has a slept-in look due to being crammed inside of her helmet nearly 24/7. By far, her most striking physical feature is the skin around her eyes; to the average passerby, it would just look as though she went heavy on the eyeshadow that morning. In truth, this discoloration is due to the genetic deformity that robbed her of her sight when she was born. The eyes look perpetually bruised, as oxygenated blood always runs flush with the skin around the eye sockets. If one were to ever look at her naked eyes, they'd also notice that they have a milky film over them. There are a handful of small scars on her torso and upper arms from training incidents, and a surgical scar on the right side of her body directly under her ribcage.
Overall she's recognizably feminine, but her figure is definitely more 'girlish' as opposed to 'womanly'.
For civilian attire, Ildon usually doesn't diversify - when in doubt, wear black. Skirts and dresses are seen as cumbersome and impractical, so she stays far away from them. A favored outfit is a pair of black boots, a worn-out pair of blue jeans, a black short-sleeved shirt, and a black zip-up jacket. Also included is a pair of wrap-around sunglasses and a pair of blue colored contact lenses to mask her blindness.
She'd never refer to it as being out on 'patrol', but when she's not pretending to be a human civilian, she's wearing what she considers to be her second skin, the 'uniform' of the Heralds; a black, leather-like jumpsuit and her ubiquitous helmet. The helmet itself doesn't look all that different from a black motorcycle helmet, aside from having two white bug-like 'eyes' on the front. While it straps on tightly and lacks a movable face shield, there is a section near the mouth-guard that snaps up to reveal her mouth.
PERSONALITY:
It wouldn't be entirely untrue to say that most people's first impression of Ildon would be built around a facade. Up until several years ago she was the very definition of a problem child, acting out in fits of rage and frustration over her disability, her mother not living up to her expectations, and others refusing to treat her with anything other than pity. She had a sizable temper and a low boiling point, and she wasn't careful about who she lashed out at or who got hurt. If her special ability hadn't developed, it's very possible she would have continued along this path of wanton aggression until meeting an unfortunate end.
Thankfully, Ildon's training as a Herald was therapeutic for her, delivering a much needed dose of anger management. While she still retains her hot-blooded temper, she's much more subdued and calm than she could have ever hoped to be as a child; although when people start pushing her buttons, the situation can quickly devolve into her reciting prayer mantras, which is her people's version of counting to ten. Ildon puts so much value on remaining calm that even her voice often carries a monotone, making her seem very disaffected by everything going on. One can also see her as painfully honest and to-the-point, as she will not hesitate to tell someone what she thinks of them or their ideas - though lately she's been trying her best to stifle that habit.
Of course, her empathy does throw a proverbial monkey wrench into things. Obviously, stronger emotions tend to sway her towards that point of the emotional spectrum. If she's losing concentration or dividing her attention, it takes even less to influence her. And a surefire way to get her in a bad mood is to make disparaging comments about her helmet, or touch it.
On top of all this Ildon learns best from actual practice, and believes that if you can't commit your best to something, it's not worth doing. Despite the unruly streak in her, she also considers herself to be an egalitarian; other than that, she doesn't really have an opinion of herself. She's currently going through a bit of an existential crisis because she feels that she's never been her own person.
POWERS AND/OR ABILITIES:
- Ramorean Physiology
[/li][li]Telepathy[/i] - Simply put, Ildon can communicate with others via her mind. She can also read others minds, although the stronger willed they are and the more they resist, the harder it gets to actually accomplish this feat. It's much easier to read surface thoughts, and this is how she gets around her blindness when her helmet is compromised; she interprets the signals sent between the optic nerves and the brain to see through other people's eyes. She does see it as a massive invasion of privacy to enter into someone's mind unbidden, so any 'true' mind-reading won't occur unless she's given due cause. In the event that she can't use someone else's eyes, her telepathy can sort of function as an incredibly weak echolocation, giving her only a vague sense of where people are in relation to her current position. She's also able to see through the eyes of any animal with a suitably developed brain, but falls prey to the same limitations those specimens exhibit (for example, she would be colorblind when looking through a dog's eyes).
[/li][li]Psionic Projection[/i] - Other than using telepathy to see through another being's eyes, this is Ildon's most widely-used ability. Using her imagination and a bit of concentration, she can manifest different machinations and objects through sheer force of will. Any object created has a glass-like appearance, is surprisingly durable, and dissipates when Ildon's abilities are blocked or when she loses consciousness. She usually uses this to arm herself in a fight, with daggers, a staff, a blade, any kind of simple and easy to use weapon.. Forming any type of 'psychic gun' does not work. The larger she tries to make something, or the more intricate it has to be, the more she needs to concentrate to make it form. After forming, a construct usually requires little to no concentration to uphold. However, if the construct is facing considerable and continuous strain (say Ildon made a shield against a stream-like projectile, or she's trying to reinforce a bridge) she needs to devote nearly all of her attention to keeping the construct(s) from phasing out of existence. Frequent overuse and strain placed upon this ability, especially within a short time-span, is prone to giving her nosebleeds that vary in severity.
[/li][li]Herald of Fate's Helmet[/i] - First off, it obviously does what you'd expect a normal helmet to do. It is sturdier than your average helmet, but completely destructible if enough force is exerted upon it. It's sole unique feature is a highly sophisticated piece of equipment which interprets it's surrounding environs through echolocation and promptly relays that information to Ildon through a psionic signal. Other telepaths could potentially 'hear' this as well if they're close enough or sensitive enough to pick up the feedback, or possibly attempt to misdirect it. Sensitive as this technology is, a sufficient blow to the helmet can distort and/or temporarily knock it out. While her telepathy is mediocre at best, her training has attuned her to the 'frequency' from the helmet, allowing her to interpret the signal from the helmet without actually wearing it. She can only do this, however, if it's within 5 feet of her person.[/li][/ul]
WEAKNESSES:
- Stronger-minded psychics can lock her out, preventing her from seeing though them.
- Ildon also cannot 'see' through any mechanical being, or anything without a mind for that matter.
- Her empathy runs the risk of escalating things when she's in a fight, making her decisions more rash.
- Higher temperatures affect her more than they would a human; fire is extremely effective against her.
- Ildon is foolhardy, usually the type to listen to suggestions.
GOALS: Her main goal at the moment is to learn as much as she can about Earth's different cultures, as per her mission. A smaller, more personal goal is that she's hoping to either get rid of her existentialist crisis entirely, if not at least start taking the steps to emerge from it.
HISTORY:
If asked about her childhood or personal life, Ildon would more than likely deflect the question or just outright lie about it. After all, it's easier to tell someone that your mother's dead than to explain that she settled for you.
Like anyone's story, Ildon's begins with her parent(s) (or lack thereof). Her mother was a prominent political figure on Ramore, coming from a family with a long history in the Church. Despite having a position laid out for her, Ildon's mother decided to pursue a career in trafficking and trade, a somewhat risky business venture considering the isolationist nature of Ramore. Though she tried to tough it out for several months, ignoring her family's requests to come back to the 'family career', eventually she had to admit to herself that she really wasn't cut out for that type of work. Even worse, she was coming up on the cusp of adulthood and she still hadn't found a suitable mate; she'd lied to her parents about seeing someone, but without anything concrete, the government would cite the dwindling population and levy a hefty 'solitary tax' on her, something she couldn't afford. Left without any options, one of her acquaintances at the trading center told her that there was one other option; an artificial insemination.
Using her acquaintance's ties to an off-worlder running the equivalent of a black market, the alien had sold Ildon's mother a DNA sample that he swore had been taken from a random, well-to-do Ramorean male. In short time, she revealed to her family that she was with child.
Naive as she was, however, the black market dealer had swindled her; the sample wasn't from another Ramorean, which would have been rather rare and expensive. Instead, it was a much cheaper stock: human. Completely unknowing, everyone present was shocked at Ildon's birth; while the human DNA was close enough to their own to impregnate her mother, the few percentages worth of discrepancy caused multiple birth defects that, while they weren't necessarily life-threatening, dealt Ildon a very crappy hand in life - for as her mother was dealing with financial issues, there was no chance of her gathering enough for the costly surgeries her daughter required. Born blind, mute, and pitifully frail, a continually mounting frustration gave her a very bitter temperament towards anyone and anything that tried to reach out to her. Having not expected a problematic child, her mother eventually became exasperated with her, putting less and less effort into trying to communicate with her.
And so their lives continued like this, with Ildon growing angrier each day as her mother became more and more disinterested, until Ildon's 10th birthday. Waking up that morning, she could immediately tell that something was different; up until now, nothing had passed through her head but unintelligible rage and mixed signals. But this was different; somehow, she could sense...things. She had no idea what it was that she was sensing, only that it was something. And when her mother entered her room to check up on her, everything happened in the blink of an eye: suddenly Ildon could see the world, looking down at a skin-and-bones girl with frazzled black hair sitting up in a bed (she wouldn't realize until later that she was looking at herself) and experiencing a myriad of memories from her mother as they washed over her in waves, threatening to drown out her own thoughts. The ordeal was over almost as quickly as it began, with Ildon's concentration snapping back in apprehension, but it left a lasting impression on her; she knew how she'd been conceived, knew how others viewed her, and most of all, truly knew how her mother felt about her.
It wasn't long after that before Ildon was brought to the Church, into an audience with the highest circle, to determine the nature of her abilities and whether or not she was one of the chosen few Ramoreans believed to have been touched by their deities. Through a short and intensive test, they decided that she was indeed a Herald, and immediately footed the bill for the medical procedures that would improve her life. The scar on her side is the biggest evidence of this time; the best and brightest medical practitioners performed exploratory surgery on her to assess whatever internal abnormalities she'd developed, removing several malformed and underdeveloped organs of unknown origin and function. Experimental treatment was conducted upon her voice, granting her the long-awaited gift of speech (although even now, her voice tends to give out when she's stressed). Her sight, however, was beyond their methods; instead, scientists and engineers redesigned a piece of sonar equipment to take advantage of her natural aptitude for telepathy, embedding it into the helmet that she would eventually come to wear as a Herald.
She was allowed a few months of recovery before her training at the Church officially started, again with the best and the brightest Ramoreans training her physically, mentally, and emotionally. Through it all, her mother and extended family made frequent visits, with Ildon herself remaining largely silent and stoic. Her mother, and indeed anyone who knew her before she was considered 'Herald of Fate' may have developed a different opinion of her, but it didn't change anything. She was still the same person that they had tolerated before, just with a title beside her name.
While undergoing her training, Ildon made scarce few friends, a fellow Herald named Relias amongst them. Relias also became her first crush, although nothing ever became of it; sent out on the last leg of his training, Relias had been missing for months before Ildon herself was sent out.
The most important thing she found in the Church was something she hadn't expected to find: a mother figure. The High Priestess was a comforting and warm individual, one who had time for Ildon no matter the latter's disposition. In fact, the only reason Ildon had stayed with the Church and her training was out of a desire to appeal to the Priestess and make her proud of her.
Finally nearing the end of her training, Ildon was told that her last lesson was to seek out and journey to a civilized planet and simply live there for an indeterminate amount of time, observing and inwardly reflecting. On the subject of when exactly she should return, she received only the following vague answer: "you'll know when it's time". After hearing much about Earth's superheroes, Ildon chose the birthplace of humanity as her destination - though not soon after entering the Milky Way, her ship was fired upon by a cloaked vessel, making her crash-land on Earth's surface. Not wanting to return without having learned anything, and not even having a functioning ship or means of communication for another option, Ildon decided to try to fold herself into human society after an initial encounter with the Titans.
