Aileen Merle Whitman
There'll be no value in the strength Of walls that I have grown There'll be no comfort in the shade Of the shadows thrown
"Why go searching for it? I merely need to sit and wait, and evil will seek me out on its own accord."
THE BASICS;; NAME: Aileen Merle (Morgan) Whitman. AGE: Fifteen. SEX: Female. CODENAME: N/A. ALIASES: Little Blackbird. "I do not like nicknames, especially that one. Call me that and I won't hesitate to defenestrate you." AFFILIATION: Anti-Hero (I think?) . STATUS: Minding her own business, taking care of villains when they come her way. CANON: No. PLAYBY: Ririchiyo Shirakiin of Inu x Boku SS.
THE GOOD STUFF;;
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: One of the first things an onlooker will notice about Aileen is her meager stature. She stands at a mere 4'9'', far too short for a fifteen-year-old, much to her disdain. Her body structure is built accordingly petite and slender. If not for a mature face, and some curves here and there (though her chest is notably flat), the dark haired girl could easily be mistaken for someone a bit younger than her current age. Despite her tiny size, Aileen's walk is assertive. She walks as if she belongs wherever she is, even if that's not always true. Her self confidence and ego is displayed in her immaculate posture. Another noticeable thing about Aileen, is that she is a girl of black and white. With pale skin, and black hair and eyes, she seems to lack color, and her clothes only follow the monochromatic trend. Her hair is black in color, glossy, and always well-groomed. The completely straight locks are rather extensive in length, falling just above the start of her legs. Her forehead is entirely obscured by equally an equally straight curtain of bangs that are cut immediately above her eyes. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. If this is indeed the case, Aileen's soul is pure, unforgiving black. Her obsidian eyes are most often found narrowed in a glare, with her dark eyebrows slanted downwards angrily.
As with her posture, Aileen's clothing is immaculate. She is a very tidy girl, revealed in her hair, skin, and clothes. The dark haired girl's favored outfit is a bit unnecessarily formal for everyday life, but it is rare to find her in anything casual. Her usual outfit is comprised of a black dress with an extremely deep v-neck, which under she wears a white shirt. The dress is lined with buttons, and the lower half is lined with pleats. Two pockets lie on the sides of the dress, although they are rarely used. "Putting anything in them other than perhaps a piece of paper would make the dress look bulky. Why do you care about my dressing habits anyways?" The white shirt underneath the dress is long sleeved. These sleeves flair out at the end before once again tightening in to cuff around her wrists. The shirt is a button down one, but the buttons are mostly obscured by the black dress as well as perhaps the most notable thing about her shirt. Bellow a flat-pressed winged collar lies a cascade of frilly ruffles. Rising up to her mid-thigh area, are dark stockings. On her feet are placed a black pair of Mary Jane shoes. All in all, her favored outfit is formal and proper, as is her style. As she doesn't truly consider herself a full-time hero, she does not wear any form of a "supersuit". However, if she one day obtains such an outfit, you can expect it to be completely black.
PERSONALITY: In contrast with her refined appearance, Aileen's personality is rather rough. In a few words, she could be summed up as perpetually ill-tempered. Her mood seems dial range from mildly irritated, to blind rage, leaving little room f0r emotions of a happier spectrum. Even when not angry, Aileen is still cynical, sarcastic, and bitter. Her temper is an explosive one, set off by a number of ways including mocking her in any form (especially concerning her height, or lack thereof), getting in her way, or being unbearably arrogant. When angry, the girl is prone to tantrums, throwing objects, punches, and kicks. Saying Aileen is childish wouldn't be incorrect at all, but you don't want to say it to her face. The one thing she perhaps hates most in other is arrogance. She considers the trait completely unbearable, despite the fact that she is plenty arrogant herself. Clearly, the girl is prone to double-standards. Friendship with her relatively difficult to obtain, as she generally views things in a "give-and-take" manner, stopping to consider what she can gain from a friendship with someone. Curiously, she is terribly afraid of dogs: large, small, puppy, or otherwise. She is always one to judge a book by it's cover.
Perhaps surprisingly, Aileen has an okay sense of morals. She recognizes right from wrong, and usually stops wrong when she sees it being done, in her own little way (though she wouldn't hesitate to resort to dirty methods to stop it). Despite this, and her abilities, she refuses to consider herself a true hero. Perhaps out of laziness, or just unwillingness to be actively involved, she does not actively go searching for crime to stop, and villains to send to jail. Of course, if she's walking down the street and sees a robbery, the dark-haired girl will do whatever is in her power to stop it, but it's not like she has a police radio or an alarm system that alerts her of villainous activities like the Teen Titans do. Her mantra and life style revolves around this insistence of hers. Aileen prefers to carry on her average daily life, with her heroic duties as nothing but a side note. For a hero, she is also rather greedy. While she would never stoop to an amoral means of obtaining wealth, her love of money and things she considers beautiful is rather astounding. Perhaps in another life, she would make a good kleptomaniac. All in all, Aileen is a rather difficult person to get along with.
POWERS AND/OR ABILITIES:
- Shadow Walking: Aileen has the ability to create and open dimensions within shadows. She simply needs to activate her power and she can sink into a shadow, and exit out of a different shadow in the same area. This allows her to cross a small area much quicker than average speed, evade attacks, and sneak up on her enemies. If she wishes, she can only partially exit a shadow, and her favorite tactic using this faucet of her ability is to reach her hand up from a shadow on the ground, and trip someone as they run by. For her to enter or exit a shadow, it must be large enough for her to fit through. To travel from one shadow to another, they need not be directly connected, but her powers are limited to a small area, and she can not travel too far away. While her power is activated, Aileen's appearance shifts to true monochrome. Aileen's ability does hold a danger to herself as well, however. If she is within a shadow dimension and the shadow she used to enter moves and there are no longer any nearby shadows, she is stuck in the dimension until a close enough and large enough shadow appears for her to exit once again. Due to the strictly defensive and supportive nature of her power, for direct attacks the girl must rely on her own strength of offense in combat.
WEAKNESSES:
- Physically rather weak.
- Her powers are not offensive, so Aileen must rely on her little strength to make attacks.
- Can get stuck inside her own power if not careful.
- Cannot use her powers without large enough shadows.
- Easily angered.
- Has a debilitating fear of dogs.
GOALS: What drives Aileen is largely her own self-centered nature. As of now, she doesn't have any large, major goals she wishes to accomplish, other than having a nice life and improving her powers.
HISTORY:Aileen was born the "runt" of the Morgan family, both age and size-wise. With five other siblings, the Morgans were one of those families who had more kids than they could really afford, an issue that was not at all helped by a father's bad habits. Upon seeing her hair, the only black hair in the family, her parents gave her the middle name of "Merle" meaning "blackbird". From this, her family nickname was derived, "Little Blackbird". A therapist may tell you her sour temper and violent nature were the result of siblings who did their job of "toughening her up for the real world" with merciless teasing a little too well. (If a therapist told Aileen that, she would reply that she does not subscribe to all those preposterous psycho-analysis notions, and it would do them very well to shut up.) She spent her first decade of life living in the same way, in a house that struggled to put food on the table. The "nice things" the dark-haired girl would come to love so much in the future were never really an option. Her parents were prone to arguments. Despite all the teasing, her family did indeed love her, a sentiment that was not always openly returned.
In Aileen's tenth year of life, two notable events occurred. One, the discovery of her powers. Two, the talk of a divorce between her parents began. While the latter would not come about for another three years, the rumors certainly had noticeable effects among the Morgan children. Aileen discovered her powers, in a rather traumatic way, by unwillingly falling into a shadow, floating confusedly her dimension of shadows. She quickly made her way to another opening from which she could see the outside world, stepping out gasping. When she gained her sense enough to look around her, she discovered she was on the opposite side of the room as she had been. She spent the next year falling in and out of shadows as she slowly gained control over the activation of her powers. More than once, she spent a good while trapped, waiting for a shadow in the outside world to appear. Eventually, the dimension became a form of escape for her, a place to break away from the cramped, busy house and think. Sometimes, she would remain within the shadows until she was bored of thinking, or when she was afraid staying any longer would risk getting stuck.
When Aileen was thirteen, the divorce that had been building for three years finally arrived. The choice between her parents was an obvious one, as their Little Blackbird looked down upon her father with brutal disdain. Another eighteen months, her mother was engaged once again. Aileen didn't bother to question it. The new man was rich, something new to the girl. He was kind, and indulged the family with gifts trying to win the girl's seemingly unattainable favor. Eventually, Aileen admitted she didn't hate her new future father. Little Blackbird-speak for she approved of her mother's choice. They were married, and Aileen shed the name of Morgan, taking up her stepfather’s surname of Whitman. She was happy to be rid of her true father’s “legacy”. All but two of her siblings were out of the house, leading their own lives. Aileen herself didn't much see the point in leaving. Her mother was bearable, and thanks to her future father, she was living comfortably, not to mention, she was really too young to. This is where she is now, going on about her daily business, attending school, ect.

Ha, Aileen's quip about her nickname reminded me of the satirical hero "The Defenestrator" who obsessively carried around a window everywhere he went.
